 Postural Restoration - PRI

Everything begins with posture.  PRI is focused on training providers in the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles. PRI explored and explaind the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns and the influence of polyarticular muscle chains on the human body. Individuals associated with the PRI are dedicated to clinical education, research and the ongoing search for improved pathways of physical medicine.

Human body are not symmetrical, PRI appreciates the body’s natural asymmetries, process that are driven by the brain's cortices, dominant patters of function, movement and behavior. PRI seeks to restore balance in posture, breathing and movement. PRI restores the bodies ability to alternate from side to side, not by making you the converse “symmetrical,” however, by helping your body shift between sides fluidly, especially during walking and breathing. Asymmetry is in fact a gift, the asymmetric human body design is wonderful, and the human body is balanced by integrating the imbalances of these systems..

If you’re compensating (think: rib flare, anterior pelvic tilt), you’re very dominant in a dysfunctional pattern. PRI challenges your nervous system to feel and integrate sensory stimulus in certain positions, aiming to enable once again, the bodies healthy movement patterns without compensation, so your breathing and walking patterns become more efficient.

PRI views extension patterns (think: arched back, flared ribs) as signs of a nervous system stuck in fight or flight (sympathetic tone). Another common example, If your hip flexors (front of your hip is tight), spinal extensors (back muscles), or pecs (chest) are dominating, then your “activation drills” may be building on dysfunction, we frequently see this clinically time and time again. PRI work brings you into a more parasympathetic, relaxed state where your body can actually heal and adapt.

About PRI

The Postural Restoration Institute® (PRI) was established in 2000 to explore and explain the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles. Our mission is based on the development of an innovative treatment that addresses the primary contributions of postural kinematic movement dysfunction.

"The human body is not symmetrical. The neurological system, respiratory system, circulatory system, muscular system, and visual system are not the same on the left side of the body as they are on the right, and vice versa. They have different responsibilities, function, position and demands on them, this system asymmetry is a good thing and an amazing design.

The human body is balanced through the integration of system imbalances. "
