Life & Influences
Robert found the expression of movement through martial arts at four years old, and something in him just lit up. It was never only about technique for him, he was drawn to the deeper layers of the practice, the interconnected sense, the clarity and stillness underneath the movement. He thrived, and his teachers noticed, encouraging him toward competition. Over the years he wandered into other sports, but he always found his way back to the a practice, and that quieter pursuit running alongside it: understanding how mind, body, actually work together. That pull eventually took him overseas, chasing down the living legends of Muay Thai's golden age. He learned directly from names like Nokweed Davy, Pi-Deang Davy, and Luhkin Wassantasit, and Somchai Chimlum, Paddy Carson, and Kru Jeb at Sityodtong. Each teacher sharpened his skill.
After more than 25 years of practice, the search led him to new style of movement and a different kind of teacher: Yogi Lizzie James, whose work in movement and breath changed everything. Through her, Robert learned more about his own nervous system. He noticed something simple but profound: a relaxed body sees more, moves more precisely, reacts better. That insight didn't just reshape his technique. It confirmed something he'd sensed since early on..,that real mastery of movement was never separate from mastery of mind and spirit.
Severe injury - Life became the ultimate training crucible, the place where everything he'd studied, physically and spiritually, stopped being theory, and everything he knew was tested in a way no gym could have prepared him for. A server motocross accident left him with serious injuries that took more than multiple surgeries on multiple limbs to address, and two years to recover from. He had to relearn how to walk. The task at hand required (excuse the pun) he rehabilitate more than one limb at once, how those limbs work together, day by day, staying committed in belief and sure his body would recovery despite the primary mechanism of injury but also the added physical insult of surgery, and what the leaves behind.
The physiology and philosophy he'd spent his lifetime exploring became something he engaged to leverage the outcome, despite the prognosis from specialists. He now understood both ends of the spectrum: what it takes to push a body to elite performance, and what it takes to rebuild one from brutal injury.
That's the perspective he brings to the people he works with today..,
no shortcuts, no miracle cure, no quick fixes, a just grounded approach to how bodies actually move towards health.
