How Stress Impacts Your Posture

Modern life affects a lot of people, sometimes putting them into a state of constant stress. Between long hours at a desk and the pressure of a busy schedule, your body rarely gets a chance to truly power down. Your nervous system reacts to these daily stresses by shifting into a "survival" mode.

This stress changes how you hold yourself. You might notice your posture and breathing are not the best. Your pelvis is rolled forward and your ribs are stuck up. These aren't just bad habits; they are physical signs that your body is stuck in a "fight or flight" response. Your brain tells your muscles to stay tight because it thinks you need to be ready for a crisis.

When you are under this kind of pressure, your breathing changes too. Most people start breathing with their neck and chest muscles instead of their diaphragm. This keeps the stress loop going. It tells your brain to stay anxious and keeps your muscles in a defensive posture.

At Gestalt Movement & Myotherapy, we address this cycle. We look at how modern stress has shaped your movement and breathing. We use Postural Restoration (PRI) to teach your body that it is safe to relax.

Our assessment helps us see where your body is overworking to compensate for stress. We work to get your breathing and your pelvis back in sync. This lets your nervous system shift out of that constant bracing.

Book an assessment to see how we can help you manage the physical toll of a stressful life.
